Summer Vacation
Hocking Valley DHA just held it's final meeting until August. We met at the wonderful Court Street Coffee on Court Street in Athens. Our own Debby Fulks-Larimer is the owner and she planned a wonderful meeting for us in her awesome coffee house. In attendance were members: Debby Larimer, Debra Howdyshell, Christy Barnhart, Jan Kemmerer, Bunny Green, Jean Wince and Linda Hewetson. We enjoyed each other's company, heard a report regarding our very successful Continuing Education day held in March in Logan. Thank you to Christy Barnhart for planning a great event for local hygienists!
Our component then spent some time deciding how to use some of that CE success to benefit others. We had already paid the Ohio Dental Hygienists' Association (ODHA) president, Angie Demko to provide lunch students of Shawnee State in Portsmouth on Friday, April 9th. President Demko has visited 10 of the 12 dental hygiene schools in Ohio and will be visiting the final 2 in the coming days. We were so pleased to support our president in this awesome endeavor of time, energy and resources to reach out to the hygienists of tomorrow that we decided to contribute a little more money to help offset costs of other school visits.
We decided to buy a horse typodont puppet to use during educational visits to schools. HVDHA members are welcome to borrow this tool for oral health presentations, by contacting Christy Barnhart at barnbskt@yahoo.com.
The generous mood continued and a contribution was made to the ODHA Gail Benninger member scholarship fund. This scholarship is awarded annually to a member who is enrolled in a program to achieve a bachelor or master's degree in dental hygiene.
During election of officers, three members stepped forward to attend ODHA annual session at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark in November 2010 as alternate delegates, along with our regular delegates. We are thrilled. Thank you to delegates; Jean Wince, Debra Howdyshell and Linda Hewetson and alternate delegates: Bunny Green, Christy Barnhart and Jan Kemmerer!
